Guarding our furry friends and others.

It is required to have your dog on a leash and, in some cases, also muzzled. This is to ensure the safety of other people, besides avoiding aggressive behavior by dogs. Dogs have heightened sensory senses and are highly attuned to anything unusual. They can detect smells and notice movements and subtle vibes that help them identify an anxious or nervous person or anything unusual. Such perceptions make them nervous too. Their behavior can be observed when they growl or when they have their tail between their legs. In some instances, you will notice that they keep staring in one direction. Should they continue to walk with you when you tug them, then it's okay.

In such a scenario, owners should calm the dog by running their hands over the dog's fur and staying calm. Start by stroking the dog's neck gently and move your hand over its shoulders and back. Keep one hand on the dog leash, while continuing to stroke its back. It's well known that we respond well to a massage. Did you know it also works wonders with dogs as well? Being calm our self is the best reassurance we can give our dog. Projecting calmness will work with humans, but not with our canine friends, because, they can feel our underlying emotions.

Pet Dog Waste

One aspect that dog owners often overlook is the responsibility of cleaning up after their pets. It is important to pick up our dog's waste and dispose of it properly. Not only is it a matter of hygiene, but it also helps in maintaining a clean and healthy environment for everyone.

Dog's

For some of us, the sight of a dog causes a certain amount of trepidation and for many others, a sense of joy watching these beautiful animals. Anxiety is mostly due to the common perception that the dog could or will cause harm & delight that comes with the pleasure of living and raising them.

Dogs are intensely loyal. They are the best canine friends anyone can have. They are treated as part of the family and are given a lot of love. As far as the dog is concerned, it does not matter whether we are rich or poor, they are loyal to us. Their loyalty is unconditional.

Would anyone in our family treat us joyfully when we are back in a few minutes? Well, no, not joyfully, unless they are scared of something else, but they would certainly acknowledge that we are back. Well, this is where dogs are different, they are always extremely happy and welcome us repeatedly every time, even if we are away for a few minutes. They have a wonderful effect on our physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Not only are they good for everybody, they teach valuable life skills to our children. Children learn to empathize, nurture, and become good human beings by being with their pets. I am sure, you will agree with me when I say, such skills are difficult to teach.

We are a country known for our love for animals, and dogs are no exception. Being a responsible dog owner goes beyond providing love and care for our furry friend. It also means being aware of the regulations that govern pet ownership.

The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act was made a law in the year 1960. Preventing mistreatment, abuse, and cruelty towards animals is the cornerstone of this act. Dog owners need to understand and abide by this act to ensure the well-being of their pets. In most cases, dog owners are not cruel, it's just, that when they are misguided, they tend to become indifferent and cruel to animals.

Here are some things that we should pay more attention to.

Responsible Ownership

Owning a pet is an extraordinary right. It's a lifelong commitment. You will not be owning a lifeless object. You will become the proud owner of a dog, who will rely on you completely with absolute trust. This means a lot in today's world. This relationship will blossom into a beautiful beneficial relationship. The decision to own a pet and care for them is very important.

We should be aware of how to take care of our dog, in a pet-friendly environment from a mental, and physical perspective, besides providing food and water. I must go on to say, that, in addition, we should be able to bond with the dog in such a way, that it becomes a part of the family. In India, it is compulsory to obtain a license for your pet dog. The licensing process usually involves providing basic information about your dog, such as breed, age, and vaccination records. This helps the authorities, like local municipal authorities, Kennel Club of India [KCI], and/or other licensed organizations to keep track of the dog population and ensure that dogs are properly vaccinated and protected.

If you meet any challenges, consult other pet owners, friends, or professionals, such as animal welfare groups or veterinary services. Medical or behavioral issues can be addressed by veterinarians or trainers.

Questions to Ask Yourself If UR Ready. How will you know if you are ready for a pet? Some questions you should ask yourself.

  • Are you ready to take care of your pet, day-in, day out? It's 100% commitment.

  • Unless you are living by yourself, you have to check with your family too. Do they agree as well?

  • Can you afford to pay for its veterinary bills, food, and grooming?

  • Is there enough space for your pet?

  • Have you learned how to take care of your pet properly before buying a pet?

Barking Dogs - Are They Seeking Attention or Being Annoying

Dogs are social animals. They enjoy human company. When left alone, Dogs can sometimes bark or whine a lot. Needless to say, it's a nuisance to people nearby. Make sure, your pet is trained by a professional trainer. It may be expensive, but trust me, it's worth the money spent. A trained dog will be well-behaved and will not be prone to barking or howling. Some of the reasons why a Dog behaves in such a way is due to boredom, being scared or restless, and in some cases, because it's separated from its owner. Get help from other pet owners. Most times, they will be happy to take care of your dog while you are away. Of course, you will have to return the favor. After all, it's not just Bark's, it's our pet's emotions that we need to deal with.

Responsible & Benevolent Breeding - Our Influence

In recent years, due to the demand for adopting pets, breeding has become a profitable business where money is often superior to pet-breeding ethics. Animals are not seen as to-be-cared-for pets but as products to be sold and money to be made of.

There is a grave concern about irresponsible and cruel breeding practices in India. While some breeders are licensed, most of them are not. Dog and 'to-be' pet owners must understand the importance of responsible breeding and ensure that they knowingly or unknowingly are not instrumental in increasing bad breeding practices. They should not hesitate to step forward and report abuse or ill care to the responsible authorities and should avoid purchasing pets from these breeders. Such breeders are often unlicensed and do not have adequate facilities. More often than not, we convince ourselves that we are saving the pet from abuse by purchasing them. While this is true, we are condemning the rest of the pets to an uncomfortable and uncaring stay with the breeders.

So, step up, take responsibility and please report them.

Being a responsible or 'to-be' pet owner not only focuses on the well-being of your pet but also fosters better animal care.
